This movie is simply one of the greatest animated movies of all time. It’s got so many levels of coolness. I first heard about this movie as the T.V. show 60 minutes was doing a bit about Japanese animation and it’s growing popularity in America. Severl years later I was able to find a bootleg copy at a sci-fi convention. I loved everything about this movie with on exception the dub was terrible. As with almost every dub done. I waited to get the DVD untill I found out about the new dub in 2001. Little did I know but it also had the original Japanese track as well. I was really happy until I found out the Japanese track wasn’t in 5.1 like the dub.
The music is wonderful and was actually written before any one say any shots of the film and also before seeing the script. The colors are crisp, many created exclusivly for this film. Sure at times it a bit hard to understand. I still don’t get the end but damn I enjoy watching this movie.
The DVD is packed with great features including over 4.500 stills of production material
I give the movie ***** stars out of 5.
